Professionals peer mentoring

A mentor is defined in the Oxford Dictionary as a “wise or trusted adviser or guide”. A mentor’s role is to advise, guide, support, and challenge, whilst encouraging the mentee to reach his/her own conclusions. The Adfam Professionals Peer Mentoring Scheme matches people who are new to the field, or who are at a point professionally where some extended support would benefit them, with people who have been working in the field for a while and have expertise that they can draw on to provide help.

Mentoring provides a unique opportunity for professionals to learn from their peers in a supportive relationship that is purely focused on their professional development. However, it is not just Mentees that benefit from a Mentoring relationship. For Mentors, being part of a mentoring relationship can provide a central function in their own professional development, giving them the experience and skills to progress or to improve in their own role.
